So Much Help for Baar
Hello! It is I, Baar. Baar is pleased to tell you all that he has many friends. Karen, SAFE member and canine behaviorist/trainer extrodinaaire offered her services to help Baar. Baar of course believes that there is nothing wrong with his behavior but living with humans can be difficult for us dogs at times and people like Karen make it much easier.
Karen suggested many things to Emily and Joe and Baar will not give you all the details (Baar wasn't really paying attention to most of the conversation - we were outside and so many things to smell and look at! Baar was busy). Last night Baar, Emily and Joe did what was called a tie down (tie off?).
Baar was put on his leash, which was attached to the door giving Baar enough room to sit and move around but not enough to do whatever Baar wants to do. Baar did not enjoy that part and Baar tried to convince the humans to let Baar off the leash with lots of crying and walking and pulling. Emily and Joe were sitting right out of reach not saying anything to Baar! Here is an unhappy Baar.
Then something amazing happened. Baar got tired and sat down and a clicking sound happened and Baar got a yummy piece of a treat! Oh Baar was happy and jumped right back up but then Emily did not pay attention to Baar again. Baar cried and paced then sat down and poof another click and this time a piece of real chicken from Joe! Oh such a happy Baar! Baar took the treat from Joe very roughly but after about 1/2 hour started taking it gently. And whenever Baar would be calm and sit or lie down there were clicks, treats, "good dogs", and pets! Even hugs! Baar was happy. We did this again upstairs before bed. Baar had a good night!
Emily's note - please keep in mind that the techniques mentioned in this blog present only our understand and application of Karen's program. If your interested in learning more, please visit Karen's website http://www.dogownerconnection.com and or contact her directly.
