Drat Thwarted Again - Enid Speaks
Well dear readers I was almost rid of Stupid Dog get again last night. The fact that he has hung on so long almost tempts me to think he might be a bit smarter then I first imagined. But fear not, I am far to clever to become convinced of that.
Through almost a week of conditioning the one who is not Joe with suggestion while she sleeps I had her convinced that she should allow Stupid Dog to run free in the backyard dragging his leash. My plan was to allow him to "exploit" a weak point in the back fencing that I've been having Ezra sneak out and worsen.
The one who is not Joe is wiley though and she took the opportunity of backyard play with Stupid Dog to work back there raking leaves and looking for ways to firm up the fencing. As a result Stupid Dog was not able to get out that way.
But once again, Bastet smiled on me and the one who is not Joe misjudged how firmly she needed to latch the gate. Stupid Dog was able to break free! The one who is not Joe was unable to grab the leash but she did go after him. She tried running away from him when he didn't come and that interested him for a moment. However Stupid Dog became distracted and kept running. Ezra and I were beside ourselves with excitement as we watched from the window.
But then the one who is not Joe was able to grab him as he tried to run past her. It was a very sad moment for Ezra and I but as F. Scott Fitzgerald said, one must never confuse a single loss with a final defeat.
Do not fear dear readers, I am told my attorney will visit tonight.
